APPROVED ACCREDITATION PROGRAMS AND ORGANIZATIONS
Utah’ s Uniform Debt-Management Services Act (Utah Code § 13-42-106(8)) requires an applicant for registration to demonstrate accreditation by an independent accrediting organization approved by the Division of Consumer Protection. The Division approves certifications from any entity providing ISO 9001 (iso.org). Below is a list of certifying entities.
APPROVED CREDIT COUNSELOR AND DEBT SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION
ORGANIZATIONS AND PROGRAMS
Utah’s Uniform Debt-Management Act (Utah Code §13-42-106(9)) mandates that debt management service providers ensure all counselors become certified credit counselors within 12 months of their initial employment. A “certified counselor” is defined (Utah Code § 13-42-102(6)) as “an individual certified by a training program or certifying organization, approved by the administrator, that authenticates the competence of individuals providing education and assistance to other individuals in connection with debt-management services.”
 
The Division of Consumer Protection has approved the following programs or organizations for credit counselor certification:
 
  • Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCP) :
    • Accredited Financial Counselor; and
    • Certified Housing Counselor programs

    • Certified Consumer Debt Specialist programs
